GUIDE

The NIT check digit

The digit after the hyphen in a NIT is the check digit (dígito de verificación, DV). It is computed from the base number with DIAN's módulo 11.

A calculator and blank receipts

Each digit, from the right, is multiplied by 3, 7, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 67 and 71. The products are added and divided by 11.

If the remainder is 0 or 1, that is the check digit; otherwise it is 11 minus the remainder. Example: 901914445 gives 5, so the NIT is 901914445-5.
